Tonight on Gossip Girl: Friendship and Romance are Tested

ggwriters:

The big moment of last week’s Valentine’s Day episode of Gossip Girl is one that divided fans and co-creatorJosh Schwartz summed this up perfectly on his Twitter ”According to gossip girl fans last night was the best/worst and they can’t wait for next wk/will never watch again. Got it!” This reaction is indicative of how fans of either ‘Chair’ or ‘Dair’ are feeling with this story development and it will be intriguing to see where they will go from here.

There are complications not just because it would seem that Blair (Leighton Meester) has feelings for both Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Dan (Penn Badgley), but because Serena (Blake Lively) has also recently declared her love for her ex-boyfriend Dan. This creates tension between best friends Serena and Blair, especially as Serena walked in on the big Blair and Dan kiss last week. Serena and Blair have fallen out on numerous occasions over several matters that have included romantic entanglements and these disagreements have sometimes got physical (or ended up with someone falling in a water fountain). Executive producer Josh Safran reveals in the producer’s preview below that we should expect to see the pair resolving matters in a more mature manner, though that doesn’t stop Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski) taking matters into her own hands and locking Blair and Serena in a room together.

What about Dan and Blair? Is this something that could happen or is it just a fleeting moment? The promofor tonight’s episode “Cross Rhodes” (the fact that this title refers to a Britney Spears movie makes me instantly happy) reveals that there will be a lot of kissing between the pair, as Blair tries to convince herself and others that she doesn’t have any romantic interest in Dan. This is an odd way to go about trying to prove this and Serena believes that Blair is lying to herself, as well as Serena if she thinks that this is the case.

As far as Dan and Chuck go it would seem that Chuck is trying to give the appearance of letting his feelings go about the whole Dan/Blair kiss, but as you would expect this really isn’t the case. Chuck hooked up with Dan’s book agent Allesandra (Marina Squerciati) in the last episode, which is definitely not a coincidence and Chuck could be looking for a way to hurt Dan through his career.

The other big reveal last week is that Charlie (Kaylee DeFer) has been caring for a sick Cece (Caroline Lagerfelt) in the Hamptons; what is it with these Rhodes women and lying to their family about everything? Charlie came back to New York to tell Lily (Kelly Rutherford) about Cece’s condition, but instead of finding her fake aunt she instead encountered the real Charlotte Rhodes/Lola (Ella Rae Peck) at Nate’s (Chace Crawford) party. This is where things get super awkward as Nate told Lola the reason why the girl she knows as Ivy is actually Charlie, leading to Lola discovering that Ivy has been impersonating her. Will Lola confront Ivy this week?

Lola will be putting her acting skills to the test in a different matter as she will be taking part in a book improv night with the Upright Citizen’s Brigade as they perform extracts from Dan’s book ‘Inside.’ I’m looking forward to what they will be doing with his book and would also like to take this opportunity to ask (again) that ‘Inside’ should get a real life release.

What did you think of the big Dan/Blair kiss last week? Is this another test that Serena and Blair’s friendship can withstand? Will the real Charlotte Rhodes be revealed to all of her family?
